Correspondence, travel diaries, genealogical information, sermons, lectures, notes, clippings, business records, photographs and other materials documenting the personal and professional life of Julius Hawley Seelye and the Seelye family. Topics covered in correspondence include Andover Theological Seminary and Christian missions in Japan and China; correspondents include Joseph H. Neesima and Kanzo Uchimura. Series 3 documents Seelye's education at Amherst College, Auburn Theological Seminary and Halle, Germany; his tenure as a faculty member and later 5th president of Amherst College, 1856-1895; and term as member of U.S. Congress, 1875-1877.
